This is a learning experience and fun match. Bipod, range bag/ruck sack type rests and sling shooters will shoot with metallic or optical sights. If enough interest exists, we will add a Tactical Prone match to our high power rifle match schedule in the future.
What to Expect on June 12th: Explanation of the new NRA Tactical Prone match followed by a 10 shot abbreviated match fired from the 100 yard line.
Format: This class was designed for AR15 and AR10 type rifles in calibers ranging from .223 to .308, as a new event, we will also allow the M1 Garand and the M1A. Sperate class for metallic and optical sights. Refiring or multiple rifles are allowed.
Rules: We are going to deviate significantly from the NRA rules so that most people can “shoot what they have”. A “Harris type” bipod with folding legs or a range bag can be used as a barrel rest. No f class type bipods or sand bags. A soft rear bag without ears, not a sandbag is allowed. We have plastic pellet filled bags in the target shed. The spirit of this event is to be tactical, not belly bench rest. The target will be the service rifle 600-yd target reduced to 100-yds, the aiming black being about 6”, the 10 ring about 1.75”. Shooting jackets and slings are allowed. Match will be 10 rounds single load in 10 minutes, we will also allow sighter shots.
What equipment do you need? Safety glasses, ear protection, a blanket or piece of carpeting to lay on, possibly elbow pads, that concrete is hard. Rifle with bipod or soft front rest/bag, soft bag for rifle butt. Ammo, spotting scope if you have one, there will be plenty available. Keep it simple. Suppressors and muzzle brakes are not allowed. A word on muzzle brakes—shooting next to a rifle with a muzzle break can be nasty. If your rifle has a muzzle break, you will fire on the last relay away from everyone else.
Registration is required: Juniors, friends and relatives are all welcome; registration will be at the event.
