The schedule for this year's refresher courses are Saturday May 3rd from 8AM-12PM and Saturday May 17th from 8AM-11AM. Realize that you just need to attend one one-hour refresher session on either of those days and each session will start at the top of the hour each of those days: 8AM, 9AM, or 10AM.
What to expect:
On May 3rd and May 17th, Russ Margenau (Club's Executive Officer) and Ryan (Club Secretary) will hold the refresher training courses. The plan is run several one-hour refresher courses each day consisting of a 20-30 minute indoor overview (mainly focused on target placement, holster use, range rules, and how and when you can move the firing line) and 20-30 minute outdoor section (the target shack, target placement, which targets stands to use at each distance, general range rules, steel target rules, plinking berm rules, and then how to shut move the firing line). Run 3-4 cycles each day; hence the three and four hour windows on the 3rd and 17th. Each class/course will start at the top of the hour and we will limit each class to 15-20 members as that is the maximum that Russ, who will be conducting the outdoor section of the refresher course, can manage. There is a chance that you may have to wait until the next class can begin at the top of the following hour. For members that have recently joined the Club, it will be a modified and abridged version of the new member orientation.
Reason for the retraining:
As stated at the previous membership meetings and in multiple newsletter articles, the Board was looking how the Club ban best ensure members were following the range rules due to the potential violations and target placement issues. The Board concluded and the members voted to approve a change in the By-Laws for membership requirement for members to undergo a 5-year refresher cycle of the membership. The goal is to make sure members know the proper range rules, range commands, target placement, and how to move the firing line and when one can do so. The members' 5-year cycle is determined from a member's membership number's ones digit. For members with membership numbers ending in 0 or 5, your refresher years will be on years ending with 0 or 5: 2025, 2030, 2035, etc.. The main goal of the refresher course is for members to know and follow all the range rules to ensure the safety of anyone on and off the range to ensure the Club's continuation for future generations of members. Finally, another goal is to make sure that all members are encouraged to help correct other members or guests if they are not following any of the range rules.
Members that want to go through a refresher but are not required to do so:
Members that want to attend, but are not required to attend a session this year can do so; however, priority for a session (limited to 15-20 members) will be given to those that are required this year. Basically, members that are not required to take the refresher training can but may have to wait for open spots and should try to attend the spots later in the day: 10AM or 11AM.
Thank you for your time and we will see you at the Club,
Ryan Linder and Russ Margenau
Club Secretary and Club Executive Officer
